What do you do when you paint a custom work and then the customer doesn't like the finished result?
This giraffe I posted earlier today is what I'm talking about- jadasartvision.deviantart.com/…  I told her I could do any animal in a realistic style.  And she had seen all my other paintings and she knew what my style was like.  She told me she wanted a giraffe done and I told her to send me a photograph of the giraffe she wanted done.  Instead she sends me a painting with a sort of colorful impressionst-like style.  I told her it would look a little different but she said it was fine.  And now she doesn't like it and even asked if I could redo it!  I should have said no from the get-go when she sent me another artist's work but I thought I could combine the 2 styles in a way she would love!  I spent about 3 hours on that giraffe.  Now what!!!? :(

Whenever I get a commission I always ask a lot of questions. Just to make sure it's what they want. Like had a horse drawing commission, and she gave me a picture but told me to change the pattern with more white! So I sent her a quick sketch with a new pattern to make sure it was what she wanted, an it all worked out great :)

It's hard to make a painting with multiples styles, especially if the person commissioning it doesn't tell you much about what they want.
It depends on how different your giraffe is from the picture, did you use different colors? did you change any shapes? What does the person not like about it? then maybe you can go back to the painting and re-do whatever they didn't like. :)

I also always send WIP's while working on a commission. Just so I know the customer is ALWAYS satisfied. that way if they don't like a WIP I can change it before I'm finished.

I would just ask what they aren't liking about it, and try and change it, if they still don't like it then I guess just leave it be. I they don't want to buy it, then maybe you can re-sell it. But they should pay you anyway for your time and work.

I hope this helped somewhat! And I hope it all works out for you! Good luck! :D
